The Oconee Summer Food for Kids is happening now. This is a 10 week program designed to assist families during the summer by supplementing their children’s breakfasts and lunches with a box of nutritious food each week.
Businesses, volunteers and the Oconee Farmers Market are working together on this project. There are 28 families with 66 children from the Food for Kids school year list currently receiving weekly boxes of food including fresh vegetables and fruit from local farmers. Recipes and instructions on care and use of fresh produce are included each week from the Oconee Extension Service. Food boxes are delivered to homes and deposited in coolers provided by the SFFK program. New this year is the inclusion of children’s books, donated by Oconee County Library Friends.
Oconee County Resource Council (OCRC) serves as the local decision-making body for the GA Family Connection Partnership, bringing community partners together to develop, implement, and evaluate plans that address the challenges facing Oconee County residents.
“I have been singing the praises of this group of individuals who gather monthly to do and offer so much for our community. Without a doubt, our county is so lucky to have you and your team working with these organizations.” – Judy Marable
